TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

Our Transportation department provides a fleet of vehicles to transport senior citizens to and from Nutrition Sites, Medical Appointments, Service Agencies, and Recreational Activities.

We are the largest human-service provider within the Southside Planning Easy Access Vans for client transportDistrict.

Every week our vehicles travel routes and work with Social Service Agencies, Health Department and other facilities for the elderly. For example, in 2000 we traveled approximately 600,00 miles and delivered 125,000 meals to the congregate and homebound senior citizens.

Transportation is provided throughout the counties of: Mecklenburg, Brunswick, and Halifax.

We also transport as far as Richmond, VA; Durham, NC and other locations.

We provide wheel chair accessible Medicaid Transportation to all medical facilities.

OUR DRIVERS

Our Transportation drivers have a variety of duties other than driving. They pack and deliver meals to congregate and homebound seniors, and check on the condition of the homebound seniors.

We have preventative vehicle maintenance system recognized throughout the state.

We have traveled in excess of 1.3 million miles without an accident resulting in an injury. Our drivers are trained in Passenger Assistance Techniques, First Aid, CPR, and Defensive Driving.

Our drivers are in constant communication with Lake Country Area Agency on Aging. Each vehicle is equipped with a two-way radio system. When clients are transported out of the radio-service area, a cellular telephone is provided.
